Canalfest Treasure Quest Chest: Throughout the weekend, purchases you make at participating Merrickville shops, restaurants and other businesses can win you terrific merchandise from the Canalfest Treasure Chest. Items have been generously donated by local business owners. You can check out the display of treasure chests at the Knock Knock Shoppe at 117 St. Lawrence St.

There are dozens of shops, artists’ studios, restaurants and other businesses within walking distance of Merrickville’s historic shopping district or a short drive away. So take the time to stroll and shop. Check at the stores for more details. Draws for the prizes take place at the end of the business day Monday.

Two Day Silent Auction: While at Blockhouse Park, you can bid on dozens of items - gift items, works of art, gourmet food baskets, gift certificates redeemable at local restaurants, shops and other businesses. Different displays of items will be auctioned on Saturday and Sunday. In total there are more than 80 items on which you can bid. Money raised supports the Merrickville Lions’ various projects. The auctions will begin at 10 am and will run until 2:30 pm - sharp.

Voyageur Canoe Races: Gather your team and paddle down the Canal on Sunday afternoon for cash prizes of $150 for 1st place, $90 for 2nd place, and $60 for 3rd place; a prize of $50 will also be awarded to the best-costumed team. Registration is free. And canoes, life jackets, paddles and an on-board paddling pro will be provided.

Teams should assemble at Blockhouse Park, alongside the Friends of the Rideau Depot at 1 p.m. The Lions reserve the right to start the event early (teams will be notified). Or to restrict the number of entries. So register early.  You can download an application here.

Rideau Canal History Hunt: Kids and families get a chance to brush up on their local history and win some yummy "hot" and "cool" prizes. History hunt forms, which contain a series of questions about Merrickville and the Rideau Canal, can be picked up at the Lions Booth between 1:00 and 2:00 pm on Sunday. And they must be returned by 3:00 pm. Answers to the questions can be found within a two block radius of Blockhouse Park.
